Off-grounds students who are registered for a class through the Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program will receive a UVA Computing ID and may open an email account.

A.  Check your status in "Whois" which confirms that you are registered for a class and are in our student information system.  Do this by using the "People Search" on the UVA home page;  http://www.virginia.edu

B.  Once your registration is complete and you appear in the university directory (whois); you will need to go to

http://www.itc.virginia.edu/pubs/docs/RespComp/newstuds.html

You may read the handbook and watch the video, but be advised that they were prepared with on-grounds students in mind, and much of the information will not apply to you as an off-grounds student.  Activate your account by taking the Responsible Computing Quiz for Students (step 3).

Write down your UVA Email ID and generated password.

C.  Go to http://www.itc/email/accounts.html

Create either a Google or Microsoft Live Email account.  This will become your official UVA email account where all of your UVA email will be sent.  You can access it through the web, from any computer using your UVA Email ID and the Password you were given in Step B.

If you have questions or problems, contact Rita Kostoff:  ritak@virginia.edu
